The roaring comeback of Greece as a tourist destination is a forecasting fact, and the demand reaches pre-crisis levels, rocketing Athens as well, to its rightful place - one of the top places of interest in 2014.
"This will be the year for those who would make a last minute reservation. Greece will be the first country to fill , " said the chief characteristics of the company FTI Ditmar Goode, while a representative of Thomas Cook notes that there is already a high demand for the islands of Crete, Rhodes and Kos, where the company will need additional beds, as reservations are already depleting the availability.
The increase in overall bookings for international destinations this summer reaches 52 %, compared with the same period in 2013 and especially in Athens, most hotels and travel agencies can already feel the surge.
This increase improves the position of Greece in the list of popular destinations for German customers. Greece now occupies the third place behind Spain and Turkey.
The news also mentioned the massive move to Greece of vacationers from Eastern Europe.
Similar are the findings by the newspaper Die Welt. In a publication on the popular destinations of the Germans, the newspaper notes that "after a reduction in demand as a result of the political turmoil of 2012, bookings for Greece have positive performance in all tour operators." The GfK survey captures general growth in tourist arrivals from Germany. Already at the end of January the Germans had spent for booking holidays 4.4bn . This is an increase of 8% compared with the same period in 2013 . Indeed, the online bookings have increased by 11 % .
